Safeguard mechanism debate reignites between government and the Greens

Warning of a gas shortfall this winter has reignited the debate between the government and the Greens over reforms to deliver on climate targets.

The government is hoping to pass their Safeguard Mechanism bill this sitting fortnight, but the Greens have demanded the power to veto new fossil fuel projects for their support, which Energy Minister Chris Bowen rejected.
